I was thinking at the minimum I'd like keyless entry on my 79 with the power locks & windows.Mainly to protect the paint if I miss the key in the lock. But what types of security systems do you all have or recommend? Starter disable, shock sensor, motion sensing with the tops off? I've seen an option that pages you when someones screwing with your car. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. |cool|

The reasn I ask,is that we've been having a rash of car & home break-ins around here recently. Our rental house side door was kicked in last year while the renter & we were both out, late at night--and the house is about 300 ft from ours. Our new renter had parked his big Ford 4X4 down the road 2 miles at a park last weekend,& while trail hiking, came back to find his locked truck, but all his CD's and some other valuables missing.Someone had used a slim jim & relocked it.A freind a few blocks down had his window broke out & stereo stolen.Theres also been mail taken. There are lots of other incidents.I have taken my old garage door off & havent got a new one up yet,but put in a radio shack motion sensor for now.My Corvette has no alarm, just a battery disconnect. |cussing|

I've tried all type of alarms over the years & I still think the fuel cut off works the best, because they can hot wire it & get about 1 or 2 blocks away before it dies in traffic. This won't prevent the flat bed crook & probably nothing will except a gun. I just used a Chevy dual tank solonid & wired it in before the fuel pump & filter....hide the switch anywhere. It works..I've forgot a few times to turn it back on..you gotta crank for 30-60 seconds to load gas back in the carb (I don't have an electric fuel pump). I also use the remote alarm with the beeper ( good for about 1/4 mile).

Alan, where did you get the solenoid? I'm thinking of doing the same thing and also adding a Moroso disconnect switch somewhere.

Vette(s): 1972 Coupe Anything, but Stock and more mods to come! SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.

If you get this months issue there is a whole article on security and what can be done to protect your vette.  They interviewed a car thief and bascially he said there is nothing he can't get around other then if he can't get it started he can't steel it.

Good Article.  Probably something to make us all think outside of the box.
