I removed the washer tank on my 77 and see a small motor on bottom.I thought the washer pump was incorporated in the w/s wiper motor on f/wall.Are there 2 pumps ?

No...your washer pump is integrated into the fluid bottle. It's just an electric motor/pump assy.

So, up on the f/wall is ONLY the motor for the wiper arms? I thought it was a dual purpose wiper motor and washer pump .

No....don't think so. The wiper washer pump is on da bottle. There is(or shouldn't be) no pump on the wiper motor itself. If the motor has been replaced, there may be a pump on it. I could be wrong... 
Earlier cars DID have the washer pump integrated on the wiper motor...

The installation of the HEI ignition took up the room where the washer pump would have been. The pump was moved to the bottle...works mooch better, anyway.

My washer isn't working so I bought a replacement bottle and pump from e-bay. The one I bought looks like the one you pictured above Joel. The one I just pulled from my 74 does not have the motor integrated with the bottle. So it sounds like I actually got a bottle for a 75-?? instead of 74 and earlier.
Assuming that's correct, and assuming that it's just the pump part of the motor that doesn't work, is there a simple fix? Can I just replace the pump part of the motor?
Or.... Is it possible to hook up the newer bottle I got and have it work somehow on my 74? The problems I foresee with this are:
1. Lack of original equip for serious judging competitions, and
2. Where the heck would I connect the hose to!?!?
How does that pump on the 75 and later get powered anyway? I didn't see any wires or electircal connectors on it.

looks like the connection for power is on bottom of motor. never had
mine out as it works. if your washer pump is like the older gms
there are rebuild kits for it and probably replacement pumps. pep boys
has them or at least they used to. to hook up the one on the
bottle take wire off original that controls washer and hook it on pump.
you could use a tee fitting to connect the hoses that go to the wipers
and the hose that comes from bottle.

The wiper-mounted pump uses a ground controlled system to operate it. When you mash the "Wash" button, it grounds a relay, and that causes a catch in the pump to contact a geared wheel, and it moves the pump piston up/down, pumping the washer fluid.
The later, bottle mounted pumps work strictly off of power and ground. The pump will operate for as long as you hold the button/switch for it. So, you can't really just run a wire from the wiper motor to it for it to work, as there really isn't one that does that job. You would have to run two wires to the pump(12v+ and a ground), and then run the power thru a switch of some sort. Lot of trouble, if you ax me.
There are "rebuild" kits for the wiper-mounted pumps. I did the '74 a couple of years ago. I think I got the pump kit from Paragon, or Zip...can't remember.
btw...the bottle I have(pictured above) is from a '77. I took it off of one we were building as a custom a few years back. I took a lot of stuff off that car to save for future "needs"($$$)
