The red Optima has done well for my car, it's a very strong battery compared to the Energizer I had before. They are expensive but last twice as long and they are sealed.

I have red Optima in my '78. Excellent battery. Not to disparage the Sears battery, I believe the Optima is just plain better technology. It's also better for our C3's with the battery in the interior...little to no chance of gassing with the Optima.

If you're able to shop at Costco, they have the best price on them...less than $100.

What's the deal with the Optima? What is different? I had one in my Impala SS and it failed before it's time. ( Red color one ).

Sucker was a dead short and would not take a charge. I could not see the price, so I stuck a good 'ol Delco in Blu.

The red top Optima is for high performance car applications. The yellow top is for vehicles with winches, extreme stereo systems that pull a lot of amperage, a lot of driving or fog lights, etc. The yellow top can be wired in parallel for lots of heavy draw accesories. The Optima blue top is a Marine deep cycle battery.

A dead short can unfortunately happen in any company's battery. Not common, but it does happen.

Optima's have spiral plates instead of straight plates. It provides far more surface in the acid or whatever they use for chemical reaction to creat the electric charge. That's a basic way of how they work.

I've got an Optima Yellow top in my truck and honestly I've never owned/bought a better battery.  The Yellow top may be over kill in your Vette though (Red Top good enough) but with my sound system in my truck I need the Yellow Top
