I am replacing the voltage regulator and on the side there is a 1/2" round 1" long with one wire that plugs into the voltage regulator, is this a resistor?? I think?? What is this and where can I buy one?

I believe that is a capacitor. Is it brown? silver? If it is the cap. you could probably get one at Radio Shack, or other 'lectronics store. If not, try 'Lectric Limited', they have stuff like that.

Mine came apart and the voltmeter would not work on my 70. I was thinking it was fusible link.

It definately would be the capacitor.  You should be able to get one from almost any corvette parts mail order company.  If you're searching for an original part number, then thats another problem.

Sounds like a capacitor for controlling radio interference??

Yes, it is the capacitor for radio interference.  It should not affect any operation other than radio noise.  It is rated in MicroFarads.  Different Mf ratings will control different noises.  It should not have anything to do with anything else, and the charging system should still operate okay.

Gee, I hate it when our MicroFarads go bad!  I took Chemistry and Physics in college, but must have missed class the day they mentioned MicroFarads.  What the heck is a MicroFarad?  Is this radio frequency thing?

the farad is the unit of measurement of capacitance

a uf (microfarad) is 1 millionth of a farad..

in the car stereo business (one of my jobs in college) we used to use large capacitors as buffers for amps..  that way morons could have a large bass pulse without killing their electrical system

Kinda related to the BF hammer? Nope.

We could get into pico farads, nano farads, not going there thanks
