I'm new to the world of Corvettes so hope this doesn't sound stupid. Just purcahsed a '72 and on the dash toward the upper left of the center gauges there is a switch that hangs down. It moves forward and backwards, but it doesn't seem to engage anything. What is it?

In my '76, it is the vent damper for the vent just above the gauges...
