OK everyone. I am getting ready to put in my new complete carpet set and I want to eliminate as much of the heat that comes through the firewall and the floors of my 76 as possible. What do you guys recommend I put down under the carpet.

Any help here appreciated. |hammer|

Here's a starting point:

And definitely put in a new tunnel insulator. |thumb|

Hey Vinee,

You can get insulation at Home Depot that can be cut to fit and is allot cheaper than the stuff made for vettes or cars.

Thanks everyone! I did go to the thread that had the home depot insulation and the actual instilation of it. I saved that site in my vette stuff folder and I will be going to Home Depot this week to check out what they have.

My carpet is going in this weekend, I also bought the insulation from Home Depot, question is which side goes to the floor...the padded side or the foil side?

Thanks in advance

Rick

Vette(s): 1972 coupe/350 cid/mild cam/4 spd/20 ft. paint (looks perfect from 20 ft.), but it sure runs nice.
I, personally, didn't want to add any more bulk in addition to the backing already on the replacement carpet so I used good ol' Reynolds aluminum foil (heavy duty-shinier side down). Big improvement over what was in there. Wife says there's still a lotta hot air in there but that's another story.

I went to Home Depot. Bought a roll of the aluminum faced insulation for $40.00. It is a little thicker then stock, but is a very close knock off. I only needed it for the drivers side. Find it in the water heater section.
I just took the old piece, laid it on the new piece, outlined the pattern, and cut to fit.
Since the 79 does not have any of this insulation in the back on the floor, I will use the left over for that area. Use 3M spray adhesive where needed.
Eckler's sells the floor plugs if you need them, $4.95 each. |saluteflag| |cool|
