I apologize if this is too long, but it covers what I know at this point. There are really 2 issues here.

First the right front parking/turn signal light pig tail is bad. Neither the running light or the turn signal now work. To the best of my knowledge the turn signal had been working, but the parking/running light had been out for a while. The side marker light works just fine, so I have ordered a new replacement for the front light. I mention this because it sort of comes into play on the real problem.

Second, the turn signals do not work. The emergency flasher DO WORK. The turn signal part just stopped the other day. On my 78 Vette the emergency flasher module is on the fuse box, attached to the firewall under the dash and you can hear it click. I put a new one in there anyway and retested and the emergency blinkers still work fine. Except for the front right parking/signal light (again the side marker works fine). This is when I found out the front right turn signal stopped working (both old and new flasher modules). On my 78 Vette the flasher module for the actual turn signals is located under the center console (and somehow is connected to a unit that also has the Radio noise suppressor). I replaced that flasher and NOTHING happened, the turn signals still didn’t work. The electrical schematic I have doesn't show any other flasher modules.

So at this point, it appears the problem could lie with 1 of 3 places. 1. The front pigtail could be breaking the circuit, I’m old enough to remember the old cars turn signals would fail if a bulb was burnt out – just not sure it applies here. 2. The junction unit that the console flasher is tied to is defective – so far I can’t find a part number for it (or the radio noise suppressor is an issue, but the radio is fine. 3. And I really dread this one. The problem is in the steering column. There’s a funky piece in there that has known issues of breaking. Part of it returns the turn signal lever back to center. It requires pulling the part of the steering wheel and I want no part of that, so I’m going to have to pay someone to do that.

So here’s what I’m looking for: Has this ever happened to anyone else? Have I over looked something? Anyone know what that part number is, under the console?

Electrical "gremlins" are a REAL pain - and I'm no expert on diagnosing them. Usually they're hard to isolate but fixes are generally simple. Hopefully someone with a stronger knowledge base between their ears will chime in. GOOD LUCK...!!!

You may find the attached useful, from the '78 Corvette Electrical troubleshooting Manual:

I notice that it does show the flasher unit under the centre console, but in the info on component location, it says that it's behind the map pocket.

It has always been my understanding that the flasher unit was indeed behind the glove box on a '78 and I'm pretty sure that's where it is on my '78. You need to remove the glovebox liner to reach it (just a number of cross-head screws around the inside edge)

I also notice that the manual refers specifically to the right front lamp unit, so there may be info in there that helps your situation.

If you haven't got a copy of the Troubleshooting Manual it'll be worth looking on Ebay for one, there always seems to be a few for sale.👍

Edit!: Looking back at my post, I see that the pictures do not out too well! I do have an on-line copy of the Manual, if you need it let me know and maybe I can email it to you.

Need more info. You state the turn sigs do not work, but....you don't say if they light up, but not flash, or if they do not light up at all. Two different issues, with different diagnostics. The turn signal flasher on your '78 is definitely behind/under the glove box. The flasher on the console, by the shifter is for the anti-theft system.
If the turn signal bulbs light up, but do not flash, your issue is most likely a bad(or incorrect style) flasher. If the signal bulbs do not light up at all, then you have a power loss issue, possibly a fuse, or an issue within the turn signal switch....in the column. If your problem is restricted to only one light, it is most likely a ground/power issue for that one light socket.
