I do not have the build sheet on me Vette and the Black Book ain't a +helpin'.

I believe there was a thread awhile back about buying build sheets, is that correct?  Something about up until 77 records were kept and retrievable?

In the meantime, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

The trim plate reads 8  070  102161  641  50L  50U  74M  EBig%20smile

Thanks,

50L/50U = Beige
641 is the interior color, but I don't see it... HEY!?!?! Didn't we just go thru this same info a few weeks back?!?! Was it your car?
Can you get a pic of the trim tag?

I will get you a pic of the trim tag and it was not my car.  Someone spoke of buying old build sheets a month or so ago.

Thanks

This car does seem to have an "out of the ordinary" configured trim tag. Tho the pic is blurry, the info is posted as:
8(which should be a "B") 070   102161
641(camel leather int.) 50L 50U(beige paint) 74M    E

The date code 070 isn't jivin...ya might want to look REALLY good to see if it is somthing else.
The int. and paint codes are valid, but...the big question here is..."What the heck does the "74M" mean?!?!? I've never seen that, that I can recall. Anyway, here is the trim tag off of Rick's car, and one off of another 81 BG car, for comparison. Anybody got any ideas on the 74M?

                    same tag, color "manipulated"

("other" '81 BG tag, also "manipulated")

Otay...after a bit of "research, I think I found the explanation of the "74M", but it still don't jive...Here's a previous THREAD that explains it...but it doesn't explain it on YOUR car!
Rick, apparently your car has been changed from a two-tone, to the color it is now...the mystery deepens...Adams' Apple2007-04-04 04:50:44

Yeah Joel,

I had a feeling it might hae been two tone, possibly beige / dark bronze according to Black Book.  74 is for Dark Bronze.  I got the reply from the folks that sell the copies of the invoices.  Are those invoices pretty good/accurate?  They should be because the items are typically high ticket items.

Thanks again, Rick

Boy Joel:

What a difference a shop light on the trim tag makes.  Gotta believe I am getting old since my sight is going.  It was a B and not an 8.  It is 07D, not 070.  I think this car was two tone.  That explains why when I pulled and replaced the sill plates, there was dark bronze under it.  I am the fifth owner and I thought the car had been re painted at least twice before.  I thought it started beige, then was painted a reddish color then the dark metallic blue.  And that might still be the case; however when I pulled the interior and t top pieces, they were beige under them.

Thanks,
Rick

07D makes the build date the 4th week of July, '81. Your VIN(2161) is fairly early, too, so it is one of the first BG cars built.
The 50/74 Beige/Dark Bronze paint code makes more sense now.

That was interesting guys.  It made me curious so I looked at my tag....and it's totally different from the photo's above.  It says:  Chevrolet 027; underneath that it reads:  TRIM  402     980 PAINT.  Then underneath those numbers it has a bunch of printing I can't even read because I'm BLIND today.

What's the Chevrolet 027 mean? Confused That's it's a coupe? Confused

Work the shoplight Mick.  I could not believe the difference.  Yeah, I tell you, I have been trying to figure that out for a while, but it made no sense, using the book and all.  You have a Big Daddy bumper car, so I would expect it to be different.
