I spent hour upon hour in the garage last weekend detailing every inch, inside and out of my car.  I must have bumped something inside because tonight when I was able to take it out for a cruise, I got the dreaded seat belt buzzer even though mine was on and snapped in tight.
 
There was no one in the passenger seat and nothing on the seat.
 
The buzzer would come and go, often starting or stopping when I stopped at a light or took off from a stop.
 
Years ago, I disconnected the passenger side seat belt buzzer beacuse I thought that was the problem.  I saw those wires as I detailed and they are still apart.  I assume that the connectors on them would prevent them from making any kind of connection for the buzzer.
 
I don't think the driver's side seat belt interlock works.  While I was out, I was able to start the car without my seatbelt connected.
 
Someone please help.  I can't drive 2 1/2 hours to Effingham with that buzzer going off!!!

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Pull the e-brake up one notch...that will silence the buzzer, but the brake light will be on.
One of two thing could cause this...the seat switch itself, or the connection for the seatbelt next to the console.
My pass seat does this every now and then when there is someone in that seat. I know what the problem is, but I'm just too lazy to fix it. I'd rather have the brake light on than listen to the buzzer, and there is rarely anyone in the pass seat anyway.

Ok, so outside of the e-brake, how do I actually "fix" this?  Where is the seat switch, and/or where would I find the connection?

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Locate the buzzer,  Aline a 16 penny nail, Strike with 2 lb hammer.  No noise.
 
You can follow the noise and locate the buzzer and disconnect it.  Commonly done
You will find a connector at the seat belts, just unplug it.

GENERAL INFORMATION 1972-73 Vehicles

The seat belt warning system consists of lap belt retractor switches, a pressure-sensitive switch underneath the right-hand front passenger's seat, a warning lamp and a buzzer.

On manual transmission-equipped cars, the circuit is wired through the ignition switch, the parking brake warning light switch, and a relay, which is located between the instrument cluster wiring and the switch on the parking brake. A diode is used to prevent feedback into the parking brake warning circuit.

On cars having automatic transmissions, the seat belt warning circuit is wired trough the ignition switch and the combination back-up lamp/neutral safety switch.

With the ignition key in the RUN position, a weight of 40-50 lbs. on the driver's or passenger's seat pressure-sensitive switch) energizes the circuit when the parking brake is released (M/T) or the gear selector placed in a forward drive range (A/T).

A warning light will glow and a buzzer will sound with the circuit energized, unless the seat belts are withdrawn from the retractors and fastened over the laps of the two outboard front seat occupants.

DISABLING THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM

Since the requirement for the interlock system was dropped during the 1975 model year, these systems may now be legally disabled. The seat warning light is still required.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.  
  2. Locate the interlock harness connector under the left-side of the instrument panel on or near the fuse block. It has orange, yellow, and green leads.  
  3. Cut and tape the ends of the green wire on the body side of the connector.  
  4. Remove the buzzer from the fuse block or connector.  
  5. Reconnect the battery ground cable.

Marshall, I believe it is a ghost only found in Indy.... "The Rath of The Buzzer" Oh sorry that were the buzzard weren't it. I think yer buzzer box is located under the dash on the left side of the steering column.

But then I like Kyster's i-dear the best!

Following the noise, I'm led to a sound coming from behind the map pocket on the passenger side.  It seems to be quite a bit of the way up there and I haven't gotten a light up there to see what I can see yet

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
