The replacement hinge springs are all about the same quality...
The $10 screwdriver is well worth it, unless you have one you can bend yourself! It takes 90% of the hassle out of installing the springs, and at least 50% of the chance of putting a huge gouge in your paint from some other tool slipping off.

Joel's right on this one (no suprise there).

I borrowed the tool from one of the vette guys.  Ya might check yer local club, they tend to have one floating around somewhere.  We tried with a regular screwdriver, the old drum brake tool, the 90 degree screwdriver and several other things.  I did gouge the paint on the inside of the fender.

Then we got the tool.  Quick and simple.

I need one of those $10.00 screw em up drivers. Has anybody purchased one of these? if so where? Did it come with installation intructions for da springs? I bought Tux a new set of springs but haven't installed them yet. I bought them from Virgina Vettes. No instructions. I e-mailed the place and a fellow said "call me". I haven't, but If the screw em up driver is the trick then I'll get it too. (Can't never have enough tools...

Thats what I was thinking.

In the pic. I think I can see where the torch darkened the shaft right at the bend.

I've got a few old screwdrivers that would be perfect.

Did you make yours Joel?
