reach in the side of the cowl and its 2 cables. if they are both there it is easy but if there not you will have to pull each latch seperately. they are also very accesable from underneath. If you have a lift.

Thank you. I have to give it a try in the morning, it's starting to rain and the car is outside.

Well, I wasn't able to reach in around the cowl and grab the cable nor was I successful in running a hooked wire down there either. My son was able to reach up from the bottom and touch the latch but unable to release it. Short of taking it in to the dealer, a sledghammer might be my next step since I don't want to drive the car until I get some power steering fluid added. |toungecool|

well I usually have done them in the air are the cables(2) till there or have they been replaced with mechanics wire. Worst case scenario you should be able to put fluid in from underneath!! Good luck!

Cables are still there but I noticed that the connecting cable between the two sides seemed awlfully long right before I closed the hood. I'm thinkiong I may have pinched that cable somehow when closing the hood.

If the cable is broke...look under the back of the hood and you'll see a hole on each side that you can get in with a long skinny screwdriver and open each latch. GM must've known they break easy. |haha|

On my '73 look on the left side near the wipers. There is a plastic plug you push out. You then can stick a long screwdriver in and push on the hood release. I think your is the same. Let us know if that works.

Like someone else said. This is really concerning when it happens but the good news is it is usually easy to open once you know how.
Stop your wipers in the straight up position. This will give you more access. With a flashlight you will see a one inch rubber cover near where the latch is. Use a straight end screwdriver and pop out the rubber cover. Then push in a downward motion on the latch, it will pop open. Do the same for the other side. I have had the original crossover cable break and since then two aftermarket cables also break on the plastic tabs. I now leave my rubber covers out for easy access. Good luck, post with your success.
