hi Guy's. I plan on getting my 71 painted this fall. Whats the best way for stripping paint? I had a blasting co. tell me they could blast it with plastic media. Anyone ever had that done? Thanks, Terry

I just had my 73 blasted with soda, I ended up with a surface that will need quite a bit of filler.  It was a little pricey a little less than $1,000, but I had up to 4 coats of paint on it in some areas. I think it was worth it, especially since the car is in my parents garage and they wouldnt have apreciated fumes from a chemical stripper, and the dust from filler is already starting to bug my mom.

If you go with blasting you just have to have someone who is experienced with fiberglass, because you can damage the actuall body.

Be careful with chemical strippers too, 'cause you don't want to leave them on too long and end up softening the resins in the glass.

What you saying Matt makes sense. I imagine blasting will not only take off paint but can but can leave valleys in the fiberglass if your not careful. The guy I'm thinking about is a professional. I would like to stay away from chemicals . You may not agree with me Chips, but I'm thinking about painting her red. Terry

Alot has been written about this subject - go to the search button - enter "blasting" under C3 body catagory  and you will see numerous articles on stripping - from razor blade, sanding -and media blasting

I've heard a lot of people complain about soda blasting the paint off.  Some say that that stuff gets EVERYWHERE (on the inside under your dash, etc.) and you will not be able to get rid of all of it.

I wasn't too concerned about the media getting everywhere, since there was not a single thing left attached to the body, though I could see how it would be a problem, I did have vacuum a bunch out of the remaining crevices.  For example, the captured nuts for the #4 body mount.

The guy I'm looking into said he uses plastic beads. He says its a lot less messy? I do have a concern about soda mess. My interior is all done and so is my motor. I really don't want to take her apart again. Looks like I did things backwards maybe?

Red is cool. It makes 'em go faster.  Black just looks good even standing still.
