The steering wheel on my 69 keeps getting sticky. I understand that this is the resin on the inside that is breaking down and oozing out. Is there a cure? What about a replacement wheel. I want to keep it as stock looking as possible but I can remember seeing 69 c3's with wood wheels. Was this a factory option or a aftermarket? The ones that I remember had the same spoke and a thin wood grip with some small rivets in it.

I had the same problem with my 72. I tried everything but could never solve the problem. I had a cheap steering wheel cover on it for a while but didn't like it. It was to cheap looking. Then I found a company called " Wheelskins" they make a great leather cover that you have to stitch on. You order the exact size and they ship it with the lacing and the needle and everything. You just put it on and start stitching it on. Took me about an hour. It looks and feels great. In my opinion this is the best thing you can do if you want to keep your original steering wheel.

Had the same problem with my 74. Experimented a little and took it off with weatherstrip adhesive remover and so far after almost a year the gunk has not returned.

I solved that problem with driving gloves....
I've never found anything that would actually clean the crap off. Never thought about the adhesive remover...I might have to give that a shot! Thanks for that tip, Dan!
There were never any wood type wheels on the '68-'82 Corvettes...some of the Mid-Year cars had them as optional equipment, but not the Sharks.

I actually had the same problem with several pieces of the vinyl interior, t-top headliner, quarter panels, etc. and worked equally well on them too.
