I have a 69 427 w/o tilt (which makes it a PAIN getting into and out of) anyway i have a friend with a tilt/tele from a 77 (complete) that i can get for nothing (or next to nothing). my question is what is the chances of this fitting my car? If not what years are interchangable with my 69'?
Any help is appriciated,
Tom

Tom, I believe the only two years that are interchangeable are the 1967 and 1968. I noticed at various swap meets that they go for $800.00 on up. I put a smaller steering wheel on my 1968. It looks just like the original, except for the wood is shinner, and it is smaller. Mounts the same. It makes it a little easier for me to get in and out. It really isn't that big of a deal to drop and remove the column, just finding the correct one to fit. Good luck

What about checking on an after market column? Like they use in customs and street rods?

Dave thats not a bad idea... i'll look into it. rul the problem i have there is no power steering..from what i understand the 427/435 never came with it, if i go to a smaller wheel i think it will be impossible to park it in a tight spot.

I have a 68 BB with no power steering & replaced it with tilt steering from flaming river. I'm very pleased with setup, although it is hard turning the wheel in a still position. The stainless steel unit is not cheap, but they make a great product.

Vette(s): "86", "89", and finally an "81" Red/Tan. I call her "Sweet Pea".
Whoaaaah!!...
I just noticed the amount of tail lights on your "Pretty"...Unless my glasses need a new prescription...you have a couple a extra lights
But man you have nice car to restore. I love those "bumper" cars. If I ever get tired of mine...I may look for one

My 68 was orginally a 427 435 hp with the three duces. I talked to the second owner and he took the engine out and sold it to a guy who had a camarro because gas was so high back then.
It was equipped with power steering, but not a tilt column. I think I would just hold out for the correct one and pay the bucks. It would make the job much easier if you are doing it yourself. I had replaced all of the power steering after I got the car, and you have to be careful with the fluid lines against the frame. Otherwise not a real difficult job.

I'm pretty sure tilt was not an option in '68. Telescoping was though.

There is a telescoping steering column on ebay for a 1968 I saw the other day. I think it was around $900.00.
