My 1982 has one of the 85 MPH speedometers from the factory. I've been considering changing it to one of the 165 MPH speedos. Why.... I really don't know?? If I do make the change, what else will I have to change or adjust to make the new speedo give the correct MPH readings??

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

I beleive a number of the catalogs have conversions already set up that you can order.
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Where are you getting the speed-o?
If it is an aftermarket deal, then, technically, it should be set up to be a direct replacement, with no changes to anything else...

Joel, Ive looked at them on Ebay and have seen several go for very attractive prices and that is what sparked the idea. If there are direct replacement kits available at retail that may be the way to go. With ebaby, you sometimes get what you think you are getting, sometimes you don't. Thanks for the info guys. Dennis, if you get to this project before I do, let us know how it works out and Ill do the same.

Check with Corvette Specialties of Maryland...I believe they can reface and cailbrate your original speedometer to 140 or 160 mph and be accurate and you won't lose your correct mileage.

Make sure it's for an '82. The '82 has an optical encoder on the back for the speed sensor for the computer.
