Hi all. Anyone have some good ideas how to stuff a 225 x 70 x 15 into the tire tub? I bought 5 new tires two years ago and never put the one in the spare tub....I am thinking maybe lower the other end some, put a nut on the support bolts to make them a bit longer, and maybe she'll go in ok??

Have you tried to put it in? A 225/70 isn't really that much bigger than stock.

You guy's probably know this, but my original spare that is in the tub is not full size. Came with the car, and is not one of the hard donuts, but a downsized Goodyear spare. I think if you put a larger tire in the tub, it may not squeeze up right.

As far as i know, the 225/70-15 tire/wheel combo is supposed to fit. The 255/60-15 tire/wheel combo does not.

Amen to that! I've got one oddball 255/60-15 off in a corner of my garage, dying of loneliness.

P.S. got a '72.

Yeah, I tried to stuff the tire in yesterday, it fits damn tight and I can't get the screw bolt to even latch, but it is very, very close. Needs just a bit more leeway and I think it might go. BTW, it is a BF Goodrich 225 x 70 x15 T/A. Will try to lower the other end today some and try again.I am also praying I never get a flat....man this is one bubba setup for the spare.

I have a 225x70x15 on an 8" wheel and it fits just fine. Make sure you have the drop bolt as loose as possible before you try and latch it. It is not easy, but it you use the lug wrench for leverage you can get it in place and latched. Good luck

Got it in earlier today. The drop bolt was all the way down, so I elected to drop the other two front bolts 3/4 - 1" and fasten with another nut and lockwasher. Still fits tight, but I can manage it ok.
