Shifter Console Trim Plate

I just acquired a 1982 (NOT a Collector's Edition) and in between the power window switches on the console is a small light. I can't find any mention of what it is, nothing in the owners manual or GM shop manual. Is this a wrong year console trim plate that a previous owner may have installed? I want to try and bring the car back to stock as much as possible and would appreciate any help you can give me.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.

Sounds like an after market alarm "armed" light.

That is an after maket light. 1981 and 1982 had no lite on shifter console. Rear window defroster lite and switch is up by heater switch.
