Driving along yesterday , car running as smooth as silk and then ?? it's as though somebody cut one of my plug wires. I thought maybe a boot popped off one of my plugs...Not that bloody simple mates !! Everything is tight. I recently installed a new vacumn pull off and that made the old Q-jet smooth out nicely. Before I investigate, anybody have ideas.
Thanks ..... Rich

What Ron said would be the first thing to look at.
Other things to look for...
malfunctioning EGR
clogged fuel filter
clogged filter sock in fuel tank
vacuum leak

Is the car idling differently out of gear and is this only ocurring under load?

The engine acts the same under exceleration, cruising, or idle. This happened in a split-second....from cruzin smooth to vibration.

Check the dist. cap and rotor first. You may find that one of the terminals inside the cap has disappeared, or become heavily corroded.
Check your plugs, too. One may have cracked all of the sudden, or the insulator for the tip(center electrode) may have broken, and slide down, covering the tip. I've seen this happen plenty of times. When this happens, the plug won't fire...well, actually, the plug will still fire, it just won't be able to fire the fuel mixture.

If the above doesn't cure your woes I would check to see if the distributor is still tight and if the car is still in time.

An old 350 guru friend of mine is coming over tomorrow (3/31) and help me enlighten myself.
He thinks it sounds like the old quadrajet acting up." Naw man", it happened too suddenly....'couldn't be' says I."That old Q-jet is one of the finest, most simply complicated fuel metering devices ever conceived my man or woman he said. I'll bet ya the price of breakfast the old fuel dumper needs a look-see" !!
"Your on"
To be continued.............
If this turns out to be fuel instead of electrical, this thread needs to be moooooved .
