Hey are all of these coupe seat belt retractors ultra sensitive to the speed you extract the belt to try and put on? On my coupe both the shoulder belt and lap belt require you to pull them ever so slowly...stupid slow or they lock up. And then you have to let them suck the entire belt back before retrying. Is there any kind of adjustment that is out of whack and or can be improved? I'm seeing lap belts and retractors on ebay pretty affordable...but probably Chinese as well. I do need new belts as the fabric is frayed. What do ya think? Dave

Mine are like that too. You just have to pull them in one smooth motion. I got used to them. I remember the belts in my Dad's '74 Caprice were the same way.

I changed mine to belts from a 4th. gen F-Body. I like them much better.

The reel locks are prolly gummed up, or rusty. Mine pull out ok, but if you don't get it out far enough the first try, you do have to reel them all the way back in, and start over.
The F-body conversion seems to be popular, and they work just fine. Brian(redwingvette) also did it on his several years ago.(scroll down to almost the bottom of the page, and click on the seatbelt pic.)

The clip together belts suck pretty hard....That conversion might be the ticket. Now, are they available in blue?.....

Yup, a couple versions of blue. There are 2 on ebay now. I'll check our local pick and pull first. Since the old ones work I can take my time sourcing these. Hey, will the f-body buckle work with my short side belt (next to console) or do I need both parts?
