I AM LEARNING A LOT OF THINGS FROM THIS FORUM. HAS ANYONE REPAIRED THE SEAT BASE? THE DRIVERS SEAT IN MY 74 IS LEANING LIKE THE TOWER OF PISA. I BOUGHT THE BASE REPAIR PLATE, BUT HAVE NOT TRIED TO REPLACE IT YET. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS REPAIR, AND HOW COMPLICATED IS IT?

Haven't tackled the seats in mine yet. Was planning to do that this spring, but funds have run low at the moment. If you don't have a passenger along much, I read in another thread about swapping the seats left to right. Might buy you a little time in needing to do the rebuild.

RX I have never installed a repair plate but I have mig welded some of the bottoms . They are pretty flimsy . The seats are pretty easy to remove and repair . BTW where is this town where you live anyway ???

I am not sure what a REPAIR plate is? If you are referring to the nut that is spot welded to the bottom of the seat to screw thr post into, I just installed a not on the post top and bottom to lock the post at the roght elevation.

My shark seat frames were broken when I got the car. Greg just took a piece of stock steel and welded it on the inside of the support bottom on the back side of the car. We were able to carefully pull back just a portion of the upholstery to get access and cover the rest with wet towels when welding. I have a photo of it somewhere which I can dig up, scan in & post if you need me to. ~Juliet

I bought an aftermarket metal plate that mounts right to the base of the seat. It is basically just like adding a support with holes to put the adjustment screws in. I will probably try to do it some rainy Saturday.

Oh, I meant to mention (to fast on the send trigger finger) 
that some of the reason they fail back there is because people don't adjust the seat back properly. They came with shims and washers to support the two padded screw in thinggies which adjust the seat back angle. If you don't put the washers in there they tend to torque right / left and this is what fatigues the seat frames. ~Juliet
