seat belt button

I have a problem with a 1969 corvette every time i push the seat bet reminder button on dash! +sparks fly and it melts the back of the button and the fuse to that blows..When i remove the console and look at the back of the button assembly, i see one black wire going wire going from the seat belt warning circut to the fuel gauge rear.So i was wondering if there was some one out there that knows about wireing that could tell me what is wrong.

It's a bad short curcuit, I'm sure someone who knows 69 better than me will post where the wires go, in the mean time i will look though my papers for it,

PS,It would appear from your posts you have some electrical problems that could be shorts, I would suggest you get a wiring diagram from a vette parts house many have ads on this forum, if you don't feel you are up for the wiring task you might consider a good auto electric shop in your town.
