My '68 requires the removal of the gage cluster.  I do not have to pull off the dash to do that.  The differences between our cars should not be that much, a few screws and my gage clusters are loose.  Getting the speedometer/tach assembly past the steering wheel is tough, so I would recomend you loosen the switch and remove it without pulling the assembly completely out.  The wiper switch cannot be changed without removing the center consol panel.

Good luck, take your time...

78 - 82 is easier.  you just remive the air pipe across to the side vent, reach up inside and look for the push button on the switch bottom.  When you depress it, you will be able to pull the stem all the way out.  Then use a large flat blade screwdriver to remove the facia.  Pull the switch out from the back.  It has 2 plug ins and 2 hoses.  The hoses have to go on the same way they came off.  If you have the time, take the female plugs out of their housing and tighten them up a bit by using needle nose to lightly crimp down on each round side.  DONT CRUSH!  Then reinstall reverse of how it came out.

GOOD LUCK!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

I haven't taken mine out yet however, I think if you dropped the column, pulled the gauge cluster (speedo & tach), then you should be able to go in from the side HOWEVER, I personally haven't done it yet.

I'll check the shop manual for advice.  I just got mine, bought it off ebay.
