Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.

If anyone took notice of our '72 at H/S gathering, the paint was only about 2 weeks old. I took all the trim off all he had to do was strip, prep, prime and paint. He said there was about 6 coats of all applied covering. We were not completly satisfied, but happy. He charged 3500.00.

Vette(s): 74 coupe 4 speed 350, 54K actual miles, all original; paint, interior, engine, split bumper. #'s match. 2nd owner, no stress cracks.
With those kind of range of of prices, you could almost buy another vette with a good  paint job and sell your old vette.  Something to think about?
Also Would give you chance to make a change if you wanted...,
for example if you wanted to get a vert or go from auto to 4 speed.

One of the problems I have is paying $7000 to paint a car that if I'm lucky would sell for $5000.  Not to mention, if it is ever in an accident, I'd never get that much from the insurance company.

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
i think the first question you need to answer is if you want a 10 inch paint job or a 10 foot paint job then you can comfortably start looking for bids with in a price point t hat you believe is joining to give you what you want

I had a quote for $7000 to start for my 73 from a shop here that does car restorations. I too feel that spending that much on a car that is going to be driven a lot more then it is going to be shown is a bit much. I had a friend that block sanded his car and had Macco paint it for $1200 and he is happy with it. It looks good from 5 feet. His car only had one paint job so it wasn't piled on with paint. My car was stripped and repainted in 1985 before I owned it. They did a crappy job leaving bad surface areas all over it. It has quite a few areas that the paint has fadded on and a lot of stone chips so i will have to get it painted sooner or later. I say it is still a good 10 footer.

Vette(s): 1969 COUPE CORTEZ SILVER, BRIGHT BLUE INTERIOR 383 cu. in. 512 HP. Hooker headers w/ side pipes PS PS AC AM FM STEREO. 68,000.MILES C5 5oth Anniversary Coupe , auto.350hp
IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR LOCATION AND WHAT YOU WANT TO ACHEIVE. I`VE  SEEN $400O.00 PAINT JOBS DOWN HERE AND I TELL YOU IT IS NOT WHAT I WANT ON MY CAR. YOU CAN ALMOST GAURRANTY THAT ONCE YOU STRIP THE CAR THERE WILL BE UNEXPECTED WORK TO BE DONE. I`M LOOKING TO SPEND $7-$8K TO DO MINE, STIPPED DOWN FIBERGLASSWORK( WHATEVER IT NEEDS) AND PAINT. I`VE SEEN SOME FOR $13K THAT WERE PHENOMINAL( TRAILER QUEENS) 7K SHOULD GIVE YOU QUALITY AND PIECE OF MIND FOR QUITE AWHILE. I DON`T FEEL THAT IS OUT OF LINE. I WOULD EXPECT TO PAY 3-4k FOR A REPAINT.

ADAM, UNLESS YOUR CAR IS A REAL P.O.S.  YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SELL FOR MUCH ABOVE $5k. DOES YOUR CAR STILL SHINE ? MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER LEAVING IT ALONE! JUST DRIVE THE THING. NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL ONE IS , IF HE TAKES IT OUT ON THE ROAD, IT`S AT RISK FOR DAMAGE. GOOD LUCK

It does not still shine.  That is why I want to repaint it.
It is really dull and faded on the top surfaces and blotchy.   The sides are shiny but full of stone chips. It used to be garaged off a dirt road.

Of course, no matter what the cost of the job, I'd still have to come up with the money. And of course, I don't have $3500, let alone $7000!

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT FINANCING THE CAR AND PAYING FOR THE PAINT OVER TIME? JUST A THOUGHT.
