The colors from Schieb I remember seeing were off the wall but they were consistent, right down to the glass and chrome |eek| . I'd wait until you can get something you'll really be happy with. I know the shops in my area want between 3-5k depending on body work.

Earl's boys once did a VW Karman Ghia. The body work on the left quarter consisted of slapping in some filler and doing shaping with a grinder. No sanding finishing etc. Then it got hit with paint. Pure ugly.

Tape it off???? That means lay some paper over the windows. It didn't really matter if it was taped down, or covering any trim.

They had their colors to choose from. Large ecomony drums of paint. It was one of their colors or nothing.

Gives me the willies. |eek| |eek|

YOUR CAR so......DO WHAT YOU WANT....

Been there more then a few times with more then few cars..and I had no problem driving any of them IN PRIMER
that I shot myself...and I can not paint...!!

Personally I would not have the car painted until it was ready and I had he money ...

A project car is just that..and doing something twice is honestly against my better judgement...

I'm thinking of having Macao repaint my rear bumper cover. The orginal owner thought it would be a good idea to wax it and then let the hot south Fla sun just bake it in a little.Everytime I see it I wan't to kick his a$$.I've tried everything I know of to get rid of the swirl marks but so far no good. |hammer| |cussing|

Guys

Thanks for all the info, it is certainly food for thought i will definatly be getting it painted as the from bumper is black(i just replaced it) the doors are so badly faded and chipped, one of them is two tone and the T Tops are a mess, i have a good painter, but he is too expensive for me at the moment, so it's off to Maaco to see what price they will quote.

OK so i went to Maaco got a tour of their workshop spoke to the owner and the painter(he's been spaying cars for about 9 years) looked at some of the cars they were doing, that included a 64 Mustang, very nice and a Camaro (in Black) it looked good.

They have just switched over to Du Pont paint and the results speak for themselves, i shall be going for the more expensive paint and even so it looks like the total bill will be about $2000 thats inclused a minor amount of bodywork, both door jambs and a prep and spray, i will be removing all the chrome etc, i shall also be removing the bumpers, T Tops and Headlights which they will spray seperatly (same time but not on the car) he told me i could use their  detail bay to remove all the parts, and the whole job should take 2 weeks.

The owner who has not long had the franchise is a car nut and wants to attract classic car owners, i will let you know how it goes, in a few months when my Tax check has come in and i can get the work done.

Gary

I had a friend in So Ca. get a Macco paint job on his 53 Olds (I think it was a 53). He paid a bit extra, but the car got a good job. Pearlescent white on the roof and a tealish green on the bottom. The car made a mag layout and on a calander. Pumps38384.8332523148
