no i'm not painting it myself. i have a good friend that will be doing it. just looking for things to watch out for. the paint on it is not that bad but need touching up here and there. after we looked at all the touching up it needed we decided to just reshoot it. http://www.geocities.com/gmackner/72vette.html

If you intend to make ( or keep ) the car original, the main thing I would look for is where all the factory over-sprays are and do your best to duplicate them when you repaint.

IF YOU RESHOOT THE CAR WHAT PAINT ARE YOU GOING TO USE. iF YOU USE BASE COAT CLEAR COAT AND THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN STRIPPED YOU WILL JUST BE HIDING THE PROBLEMS FOR A SHORT TIME. iF YOU USE LAQUIRE WHICH IS HARD TO GET NOWADAYS CAUSE OF THE EDP YOU NEED NOT STRIP THE CAR. gOOD LUCK. I JUST WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS.

When you go to re-paint your car, look for two things in particular. First is lacuer(sp) checking, small cracks in the paint making the paint rough to the touch. If you have this you will want to chemically strip the car. Blocking it out or media blasting does not work.
The other more dificult blemish is the ever abhorant stress crack. Each year Corvette, especially the older ones are prone to this. Do not just bondo these. Once the bondo begins to crack, the problem exagerates as a factor of thickness of the bondo.
Good luck with your repaint
