Preparation for painting. Side emblems on front fenders appear to be stuck on with double stick tape pads and also has alignment pin into the fiberglass. Inside fender does not indicate any nuts or retainers. Is this normal? To remove? Are replacements available as the small downcomers on flags are bent and or broken off.

Thanks,

Bick

most likely they are two sided tape- they also make some with wire nuts that are on the back) Napa or most auto paint stores will have a spray can of trim removal. spray around it-let it work for a short time and use a plastic puttyknife (wifes old plastic spatula) to ease it off, once it starts it will come off easily. clean the area good before painting. Or find a local hoodlem they all know how to remove these emblems in plane view of a car show without being noticed. yes it has happened twice

I pulled mine off for detailing the car, the previous owner liked to pile wax around the emblems for some odd reason. Mine just came right out with  a little working, no adhesive behind them or nuts on back. I thought maybe something was missing but they went back on tight and secure just by pushing them back in the holes . That was about 3 or 4 years ago on the 77.

Mid America has replacements as well as most other vendors.

Hope this helps !

Originally, there would have been a two-sided tape on the emblems. The studs were for alignment only. There would be no speed nuts on them. A heat gun(hairdryer) makes the removal easier. Getting two-sided tape that matches the contour of the emblems when it's time to re-install them is impossible!
I used regular two-sided tape, and spent a couple of hours cutting around the emblems with a razor blade.

Scott, it sounds like your car may have barrel inserts in the holes for the studs...not factory, but a good choice over the tape ordeal.

I bought four new ones for my vette, double sided stickers, I bought mine first from Ecklers, before I installed them I saw them in Mid America Motorsports catalog for $75.00 less. Of course I returned them to ecklers and ordered from MAM, I'm satisfied, they look good, Gene

I have also heard of using fishing line to sort of slide / saw between the emblem and the paint to loosen the glue.
