How do you remove the side view mirros on an 81? It seems that the side glass blocks access, and if necessary whats the best way to remove side glass? Thanks!

You don't need to remove it, if you can work in cramped spaces.  Loosen and remove the lower stop that controls the bottom travel of the window.  That will allow it to drop a couple more inches.  That may be enough.

I saw this topic and thought I might have some input but am only embarrassed. I just had my wife's 78' painted and the painter being a budy of mine allowed me to help dimantle and reassemble since I can't really afford paint. Well it never accurred to me to post for advise and I practically gutted the doors to remove the mirrors. That's what the paint shop mechanic told me he had to do on C-3's.Boy do I feel dumb cause I really didn't have the time to spare but I was able to replace the anti rattle goodies and window felts and wipers . Now that it's done the doors are solid and the paint is beautiful.  I'm in corvette heaven accept, Her car is much prettier than mine, and well, it has a nicer motor too. Oh well at least I get to work on it. I'm sorry I don't have pictures yet as I'm new at this, but I'll post them as soon as I pick up on it.

Than whe with our chroom mirrors are better of ! Mine was loose on the ball-joint so i wanted to place a new one on the passenger side as from daily driving whe're used to have that also and i was always 'surching' a mirror that way...

So i tought... i removed the screw underside mirror-arm but nothing moved. How hard i'd pull , only the door began to defrom but no mirror ... OK, i protected the car with clothes , only one hole for the mirror ( was just like a surgery ) and cut the arm near the door... and yes , somebody had it filled up with damned good vulcanising rubber...  Cleaned up and installed new one.

The passenger side : bit scary drilling holes in that $$$$paint job but no problem : thanx GM for the template!

Meanwhile let me present proudly my new toy :

anybody wants a oil change?

see you!
