Is anyone haveing problems with the rear window defrosters on the 82 models?  specifically with the 30amp fuse receptable.  both of my 82 cars have wither blown the fuses or the fuse receptable is full of a black substance  but only in the 30amp fuse place.  thanks Ira

The electric grid on the rear window takes a lot of amperage to run. That's why it's on a timer. It's fairly common to see the fuses, and the "receptacle" look like they've been hot. One thing to check is what brand/type of fuses you are using. There are some out there that are NOT blowing at the proper time, which results in overheated wiring/circuits, at the least, and melted cars at the worse...
If you're having a problem with good quality fuses blowing, then there is either a problem with the grid on the glass, or in the wiring somewhere, that is pulling even more amps than normal.

I don't know if this helps, but on my '79, the rear window defroster quit. After changing out the switch and the relay, we finally found the problem to be the fusebox having come loose from the harness and corroded. Cleaned it up an reattached it and "BAM", everthing back to normal. Just something to think about.
