Told recently by body shop - questionable - that in order to replace the 'name plate' corvette properly, would need to remove ear bumper to get nuts seated and back plate into proper position? True or False?

I have an early '76. I replaced the rear emblem without removing the rear bumper. It maybe best to remove the rear bumper, but it can be done without.

Vette(s): 1980 corvette, very modified. Right hand drive done by myself.
In a word, False. I've had to do mine a couple of times when I was restoring my baby and it is not hard to do in actual fact takes about 5 mins. My baby is a 1980.
