I understand from a previoius thread that it is best to use the original type of body mounts,,,,,,BUT....
Does anyone have any idea how hard it would be to change the rear body mounts now that I have the gas tank out?

is there a particular reason you want to replace your body mounts..
you should have metal spacers.. it is very possible the bolts are rusted out pretty bad.. but unless the brackets are broken there isnt much that goes wrong with them.. unless your prepared to dig in deep.. id leave it alone..
if you do decide to do this .. make sure you soak the bolts and nuts with pb blaster for a few days before trying to break them loose.

I don't se how having the gas tank out would make the job any easier (if thats what you are asking). If you plan on doing it then plan on changing out all of the mounts.

Basically, the car has been in the family shop for a couple of weeks. I replaced the rear suspension & I am in the middle of replacing a bad gas tank.
As for the body mounts, my curiosity has come from spending too much time under the car & looking at everything from 3 inches away.
The body mounts are a little rough around the edges, but they are solid. If it was an easy swap, I would do it now.
But to be honest with you.....I'm going to leave them alone.

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
If they are rough around the edges and you suspect they may get worse you could always cover them in por-15 to protect them from rusting any further. Just a thought.

I have always heard, as an upgrade to our metal body mounts, install the rubber mounts. The benefit is a quieter ride. I don't know this first hand, just passing along what I have heard/read.

I tried to upgrade to the rubber mounts, gave up and went back with the original types. It looked to me like you have to modify some of the mount brackets on the frame.

That's exactly what I did. That should keep them status quo for now.
I'm comfortable leaving them alone.
