I just received my original console shifter plate, fiber optic plate, lock knobs, and inside chrome door pulls back from Space Coast Plating. The came highly recommended by someone in the business of corvette restoration for 20 +years!

The plating is beautiful but! All of the detail is destroyed. The parts are virtually useless and I spent a lot of money and waited 18 weeks!

The letters on the plates are no longer sharp. They put the plating on soo thick and then polished the parts so much that the letters are barely raised and are certainly so you cannot paint and properly detail the letters. The same is true of the Chrome outlines on the pieces. They polished the entire piece eliminating the original detail.

I am hoping to speak with them tomorrow to ask for a full refund.

If someone has really nice originals, I am in the market. Mine were barely pitted and I should have left them alone.

Thank you for letting me vent!

Bill

Man.....that sucks a big one. I've run into that kind of thing before, too. The pieces are ruined after that, as far as the details. I hope you can get some kind of satisfaction from them, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'll bet they tell you the details(letters, etc.) were already worn down. Good luck with them.
I'll keep my eye out for some good used pieces in my searches for other stuff, tho.

I spoke with Space Coast Plating and it looks like we will be able to work things out.

Neither. I am chaulking it up to my own ignorance. To replate the original parts requires that they grind off the old plating. According to them it is almost impossible to maintain the original crispness of the letters.

I suggested that next time they give their customer a choice and explain up front that the detail after replating would be lost.

This was an expensive lesson. I hope I can find original replacements.

The chrome is beautiful but the parts have been destroyed as far as I am concerned.

I am going to move on. It just really ticks me off to find all this stuff out after the fact.

Thank you for asking.
