I bought a stock '68 AM/FM radio on eBay I had the amp up in the dash already, I hooked it up with the original plugs It lites up and I get sound for a few seconds and it fades. Is there a Delco repair shop anyone uses or is it the amp ?? Thanks.............

Do a web search for auto radio repairs. I sent a radio from a '67 Dodge Charger I used to own to a repair place in Texas (I believe) that rebuilt it for about $125. I don't own the car anymore and sent all the documentation on the car with it, or I'd have the shop's name for you. You should be able to find a repair shop for older radios.

My '69's original AM/FM radio would keep its volume but wouldn't hold a station, but I replaced it with an Alpine stereo/CD player in a bezel made for new radios. I've saved the original parts in the meantime to stay with the car.

There are several 'authorized' Delco repair facilities in the USA. The one I use here does radio/stereo repairs, and speedo work. I don't have the info here at the house, but I'll bring it home tommorrow nite. I have had a lot of speedo/stereo stuff fixed by them, and they are fairly reasonable on pricing. There is also another guy here locally that specializes in older radio repairs, and updates. I'll try to get his address/web site and post it, too. He's been featured in some of the 'Vette mags.

It sounds ( ) like your amp may be taking a poop, but it could be a bad receiver.

I found it!! Check

Ward's. No web site, e-mail: glw@mchsi.com  Phone: 256-852-0955

Gordon Ward did a great job on mine, he's in Huntsville, Alabama.

Here's another, pricey, but nice web site, interesting reading.

know what? for what the custom autosound units are going for, and the quality you get, converting your old one is not such a bad idea. i mean what better than to convert your old delco to a digital with inputs for a cd player? costs about 400 bucks. expensive yes, but look at what you pay for a custom autosound unit.

I totally agree. You will also retain the original look of the dash. Replacement radios look okay, but they are just not the same as the original look. I'm pretty satisfied just having mine where it plays, and does so quite well. The replacement upgrade Delco speakers made a big improvement. Big Fish38548.5643634259
