I don't listen to the radio much, but I turned it on today and there is a lot of motor noise. Sounds great as long as the motor is off. Start the car and I cannot understand a word. I tried a CD and same noise. Is there something I missed when I put new motor in.

Is the noise constant or does it rise and lower with engine rpm's? If it's constant, it's ignition interference...if it rises and lowers then it's alternator noise.
Did you replace the shielding around your distributor, coil and plug wires? If not, do so. If it's alternator noise a filter on that can solve the problem.
Poor grounds on the radio and speakers can add to the problem as well.

it is constant no whining noises. Sounds like it would if the station was fading in and out very fast.

Btw, that is just a good looking, seldom seen color combo on your car.

That sounds a lot like you have a bad antenna or antenna wire. Check the connections ( not easy, I know), but I'd bet that the problem is in the antenna system.
