I have an '81 assembly manual, but I am still not sure about how to remove the radio/gauge cluster dash panel, to remove/install a different radio. Anyone ever tackle this on an '81? Thanks.

My 79 has the screws in the top of the cluster, two in the sides and the tricky ones that hold the gauge cluster to the lower console. You can get at these by removing the carpeted side panels on the lower console. Three screws(hidden in the carpet) one up toward the front, one in the middle and one at the rear. This means you will have to remove the seats to expose. I would suggest that if you plan on changing anything else in the cosoles, do it now so you don't have to take everything apart more than once.

I just bought an '82 and would like to put in a new stereo. Mine is all original but I've checked out the CAS units and I'm not impressed. I do like the options that I found in regards to the custome bezels out there that allow for the newer DIN stereos, so I'm thinking of getting one of those to plug in and keep my original to replace if I need to. How did your replacement go? What did you put in? Advice?

What brand radio did you purchase? Will you have to cut into your guage bezel?

Hello bwritt,
You should take a look at this. We will have the proto type this week. Your impressions of the CAS is accurate. I have one that I bought some years back and disliked from the moment I turned it on.

This bezel will replace stock 77-82 bezels and will look great.
