Flem,

Check out this link. http://members.cox.net/~mfouchi/vette/speakers/boxplans.htm There is a nice discription of how to make custom rear speakers for a C3. I was thinking of doing this one this winter.

OK, I'll sound like a broken record, as I have this same response to all speaker questions: Speakers need sealed enclosures to put out good bass and volume. The standard location are terrible for sound. The ONLY two reasonable options I have seen are 1) build a box to sit in the rear compartment area (not an option before the Vette fastback) or 2) replace the doors on the rear compartment areas with carpet covered plywood and install speakers in these new doors. This uses the battery and storage areas as a sealed enclosure. AMAZINGLY better bass and volume! Obviously, I chose option 2. To remove the doors, you just unscrew the whole door/trim assembly, then slide out the wire rods that act as hinges for the doors. The wooden replacements I built fit very snugly, so I just have then sitting in there with no rod, screw, nothing.

I have a Pioneer Super tuner III AM/FM-CD W/remote. Dash had to be cut. I replaced the dash speakers with Eclipse 4x6 coax. $75/pair. And the rear speakers are mounted in a sealed box that fits against the wall in back nicely. Don't know what brand speakers, I got the speakerbox at a flea market for $50. It sounds pretty good to.
