I have 1976 Stingray but it got a crack in the bumper so I purchased a new bumper for very cheap but it turned out to be a 1977 bumper. I just am wondering if there is a universal emblem that I can put on the 1977 bumper that looks like the emblem from 1976? Thanks.

76 and 77 bumpers are interchangable. They both are identical to each other. If yours is different, are you sure its not from a later vette like a 1980? As for you emblems, they are easy to find for any year of vettes. Several companies sell them. he is a few links for vendors. mid america:http://www.madvet.com/

It is definetly not from 1980 because of the font style, but it is a larger emblem. The madvet website showed that the 1976L-79 emblem is 8 inches and the 1976E emblem is 6 inches. My problem is that the new bumper had a longer emblem and so the holes to fit the emblem or spaced out more than on my original bumper. I just don't want a 1977 emblem, or whatever year it is, on my 1976 Corvette. Thanks for the sites though, they were helpful.

sounds like you have an early 76.. and your new bumper is from a late 76

What does the emblem have to do with bumper fit? The emblem goes in the glass between the headlights, right? |headscratch|

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
I'm pretty sure Styng76 is talking about the rear bumper and C O R V E T T E being spelled out takes 8 inches on the later models, but only 6 inches on the early models.

I think I'd be worried if he had an 8" emblem on the front! |eek|

CThulhu hit the nail smack dab on the head....

It does sound like you picked up a rear bumper for a LATE
Production 76.... when you car was actually an EARLY production car...

My 76 (a February built car) has the 6 inch letters on the
back.. AND THEY ARE RECESSED slightly into the bumper

on Late production cars the letters are NOT RECESSED

It's a bit down the road, but my replacement fiberglass bumper does not have the recess that a 75 should have. Any suggestions for the rear?
