Ok.... i've almost completed my L48 engine project, and is now putting out around 400 hp. Before i'm done though i'd like to slap the largest 4'' deep, 14'' KN airfilter i can find on it. I also want to replace the new manifold with an even better, higher rising one. To do this though i need gobs more hood clearance. Whats public opinion when it comes to putting an L88 hood on a 71 l48?? I'm not gonna label it 427 or anything..., and i'm actually bothered more about being thought of as a "poser", than anything else. I know it shouldn't matter what others think... only what i do..., i just wnat some other opinions. Tks!

It's your car...do as you like. It sounds like the engine will have the stones to back it up.

The L88 hood certainly looks better than the 5 inch rise added to some of the 'stock' hoods. The L88 hood will be my choice when I finish the install of the blown 350 in mine. 460hp/580ftlps....... |bouncy|

Wow... thats lots of power! Na... gonna stick NA for me. I figure i'll go with the l88 hood... and the air cleaner. Then a month later get the intake manifold i want. Perhaps a year or so later i'll up the pistons from 9.5-1 to 10.5-1 as well as some port/polish jobs. I figure i'll get about 425-450hp:) I'll be happy with that and a 3.55 rear end!

Vette(s): I own a 1974 L48 white/red automatic, a 1976 daily driver L82 4 speed and a 1979 L48 automatic.
I have one one my 76, it was already on the car when I purchased it. The previous owner had a highrise intake but choose to keep it when he sold it. I had planned to repalce the hood with an original but know I like the look way to much to change it.

Take a look at it on my web site, or go to the Online C3 vette show.

Hey Brandon, I'm in the middle of repainting my 73 L82 and I just put an l-88 hood on mine. It gave me about 2 1/2" more hood clerance than my stock cowl type hood.I will probally use my L82 emblems and some kind of a stripe on it. I believe it will look pretty good and my opinion is the most important to me.I can E-mail you some pics. if you want me to.I don't see any way to post them on this forum......Good luck
