Power Window Motors

Hey Guys,

I am looking at replacing my power window motors in my 1970 coupe.  Both are tired and struggle to get the windows up.  I replaced the brushes about ten years ago, which was very successful and put plenty of life back in them.

 

However, the armatures are now fairly well worn and it does not appear that a re-brush job would work out very well.

 

I am wondering which would be the best 1) rebuilt ones, if so who has the best, or 2) new ones but I am worried about getting a piece of junk from China?

You can get them rebuilt again for a reasonable fee. I just had a window motor rebuilt for $45. Find a shop that specializes in rebuilding alternators, starters, etc. They'll likely do window motors as well.

You know by having yours rebuilt that they're the correct ones for your car. Often you buy rebuilt anything from suppliers they don't fit without headaches.

we got a new one from ecklers and it works and fit fine. I learned that they are the same as any motor in any chevy but the one marked left is on the right side side and the one marked right  is on the left side. Chevy had to do it this way to fit them in the Vette doors and work properly. I thought that was very intersting.

While we're on the subject.............. I've got to replace my driver's side motor....... It's riveted in ?...do i have to drill the rivets out ?

I'm pretty sure the winder motors are bolted in. 5/16" screws/bolts, iffin I remember right.

not to be a butthead, but my page out of the manual (and my memory of inside the door, not as trustworthy...) shows a plate (attached by rivets) that appears to hold the sector gear on it's back side.....  Does this need to be removed ? (further complicating matters, the manual shows only the passenger door)

What year car is it? There are a couple of things that are riveted, such as the main gear itself, and the little "brace" for the motor.
