I hate to have a Dum Answer but are we sure that the T-Bar is Stainless? My 80' has had a Rust spot in it since almost New. I have always thought it was Chrome Plated. The Chrome is Bubble'd in a Spot and 20 Years later its no worse. I have always planed on Removing it and replaceing it with a New One although I'm sure its Glued on there pretty good. Richard....

The one in my 76 appears to be stainless. Corner brackets on the windsheild are chrome plated steel. I can't speak for other years. It ia also possible that NOM parts manufactured were of "other" materials.

Richard:
It is chrome on my 81 and it comes off very easy, not glued at all. Small screws along the sides of it and I think (2) rivets at the back. I took mine off when I first got the car to see what was up, rust wise!
By the way, I mentioned earlier that I screwed up stainless before, I fixed my screw ups on the stainless with 2000 grit paper then buffing with high speed buffer on a bench top model.
Good luck,
Rick

Back in the day we always used a polishing compound and hand rubbed it. Take your time and you can get good results. I always picked up a couple of different grits and started with the finest wouking my way to the more agressive if needed and back to the finest for the finish.
Good luck
Mike

Chrome or Stainless..." HARD STUFF"
You stated that you had it close to a good shine...Try some "Tin Oxide" available at your unfriendly pharmacy and a chamois wheel. If you can't find the Chamois use what you have.
I don't have personal experience with this but have heard this is the way to get that final "pop"...so-to-speak.
Good luck...Rich

I sent the bar out to get (hopefully) professionally done. I'll let you guys know how it worked out.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I just picked up my T-bar & upper windshield trim from a local finisher.
WOW, they came out beautiful !
It only cost me $40

I'm going to give him my rocker panels & door sill trim to polish next.
Little by little it's all coming together.
