Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.
I just received my Pertronix in the mail. I was going thru the installation instructions, it mentioned a ballast resistor. I don't know if my '69 has one or not, or what one looks like? I was hoping mine doesn't have one so I can just hook it to the coil.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt, The ballast resistor in my 71 is mounted against the firewall on the drivers side. It is about 4" long and white in color. The ballast connects to the coil (+) terminal...you can trace it back from there.

I just installed a pertronix myself. I had a bit of fun with it too. I hope this helps.

Matt normally cars that have points in them do have resistor wire going to the coil to drop the volts.I put a Crane XR-1 kit in my 73 and it had resistor wire.Hope this helps you out.

O.K. One last question. The pink resistor wire that goes to the coil plugs in at the fuse box. Do I tie into that wire or can I unplug it and plug the Pertronix into the ignition port on the fuse box?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

The pink wire should be fine providing it is the 12-gauge wire that goes to a 12V ignition source.
