To All,
I am getting prepped to re-paint the windshield (including the A pillars), rear window, and rocker panel chrome trim. It had been painted a satin black before, but it's in bad shape now and adhesion was not great. I feel a satin black goes best with my cars current paint color. I have a general idea about painting and prepping and some experience, but I thought I should ask everyone first to see if anyone has any personal experience, tips, dos and don'ts before I begin. I was thinking a single stage, easier to repair later. I can see the chrome was never sanded before, that might explain the bad adhesion, or they might have used a rattle can! I tried searching the forums, but came up empty. Of course you have to ask the right questions!

I would think an epoxy primer over a well sanded chrome would provide a good base for the topcoat.

There's something called adhesion promoter specifically for use on chrome prior to painting. Also recommend using Prep-Sol to remove wax, grease, silicone, etc.

Thanks! I can see this chrome was never really scuffed up. Doubtful the paint had any surface to grab a hold of. I will prep this well.

I will check that out. I have used plastic adhesion sprays before, haven’t seen chrome. Definitely will clean it well. Prep solv or Pre from Eastwood. I also find washing everything with dish soap to start hells too. Seems even solvents have issues with some types of oils/dirts.
