Ok so a few months back I bought a spoiler on Ebay. I am eventually going to get the entire rear of the car painted, but want to try my hand at it first by doing this spoiler.

So my question is this. I notice there are some spider cracks in the paint. Do I need to completely remove all the paint or can I just sand it smooth?

If I prime it do you think the cracks will reappear?

Well unless you sand em out I'd say they have to return. If your guna paint it soon anyhow just spray it and see. Be a good test.

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
Is the spoiler the original urethane from '78-79 or fiberglass? Could be wrong but I think if it's urethane you're suppost to use some kind of special flex primer.

Dan, you cannot paint over cracks if you want the new paint to last. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY CAR! You can paint anything without much prep. The question is, how long will it last? Do it right the first time, Buddy!

Dan,

I agree with Barry.  Still sanding & prepping mine. Be sure to use a block, & sand w/80, prime, then 180, prime if needed, then 220 wet sand.  You won't regret doing it right. Just my 2 cents.

Mike
