I have the interior apart and want to paint the ashtray door and trim rings around the door latch release levers. Both are some form of semi-gloss or semi-flat black. I'd be interested in hearing what manufacturer/color/sheen of paint others have used that you feel resulted in a great original look.
Thanks!

For the ashtray door I used a satin finish spray black and it looks fine. For the bezels around your door release handles you can buy reproduction ones from the parts houses that look great, but if you want to simply repaint them, the parts houses sell spray paint to match your interior color. You can then use a silver pen from a hobby or crafts shop to color the edges. By the time you buy the spray paint and silver pen, you've spent close to the cost of repro bezels.

I heard that Plasti-kote black trim paint is almost a perfect match. It is available at any parts store.

I am going to try it on my car as I am restoring my interior too. I will try it on a prctice piece first!

I got the information from William's Corvette in S. Car. |thumb|

I've used a brand called "Painter's Choice" made by Rust-Oluem. Their semi- gloss and satin black are the best I've seen so far.
With care, it produced the smoothest finish I've ever seen in a spray can.

I bought it at Home Depot.

I used Plasti-Kote semi flat #3 Hot Rod Black and it came out perfect. Make sure you do a couple of coats and let it dry overnight or use a heat lamp. As nice as OEM and am using it on all my metal parts. I apply a primer coat on everything except the dash items. Good luck. |thumb|

Thanks guys! I will trial both, use the one I like best, and report my results back here.
