hello folks- im thinking of having my 79 repainted, but i am curious about something- what can be done about the decal on the door? my car is all original, and this decal clearly shows my vin# and date of manufacture. is there a way to obtain a replacement, or do i have the body shop mask that off before spraying the door? if anyone has solved this type of problem id really appreciate the input. thanks

Mask it off,you can get a replacement sticker through a vender I have seen them at Carlisle ,but I don,t remember thier name, but they come blank and you have to type in the info yourself,I just don't think it would look right compared to the original.Just tape it off carefully it should be fine Ron 78 |thumb| |saluteflag| |withstupid|

thanks for the input- i was thinking that may be the case. i will most likely just mask it off, but i was concerned that it would look crappy if it was masked off. since im a graphic artist, i figured i could recreate the typeface used on the original decal, and screen print it on the replacement decal- if i could locate that supplier you mentioned- but maybe im just being anal about it!

Be sure to let us know how it turns out!! As you may know(depending on how thoroughly you've read the forums) I don't have the original door on my beast, still have the original tag on the original door but I'm not sure how successful I'll be at removing and re-affixing it. Nice to know if there are alternatives!

I'd use a heavy mask tape or 2-3 levels of regular masking tape. Paint can bleed through regular masking tape. |cheers|

When I bought my vette, the tag was in a little envelope, as the car was repainted by the prev. owner. I used a clear stick-on cover to put it back. Joe

Vette(s): I own a 1974 L48 white/red automatic, a 1976 daily driver L82 4 speed and a 1979 L48 automatic.
I tried to find the web site for the tags and it didn't work, after seaching I found this link.
They have a lot of tags.
