I have a 78, Non-Pace Car, aniversary edition. The seats are the two piece, top and bottom, not bottom and half back like a 78-82 model, with 2" bolster. They appear to have been recovered at some time or the other. They have leather inserts with vinyl sides and backs. The catalogs I have show five or six different replacement covers for a 78. Does anyone know what was originally in a 78 Non-Pace car? |ohwell|

Darrell, here is a pic of a 78 interior where you can see the seats. It looks like they have what you are describing, but I'm not sure. Compare it to what you have, and these are from a restored car. Hope this helps!

Vette(s): 1978 INDY PACE CAR #3016 of #6502 built. Has original Pace car decals still in GM boxes the way it was delivered to GM dealers. per NCRS "UPDATE" Decals applied as of 3/8/02 (ALL ORIGINAL)
Darrell,
Sorry for the late reply, but here is a description of the 1978 seat design from the 78 NCRS Technical Manual.

Seat Design
For regular production 1978's, the seats were a carry-over from the 1977 interior. Seat backs latched into an upright position, and were released by pressing a button located on the upper portion of the seat back.

Leather Upholstery
The stitching for the seat panel insert on regular production 1978's creates a horizontal ( left-right) pattern of alternating wide and narrow strips. The seating surface area on this style seat was leather, and the side bolsters were vinyl. The seating area stitching pattern was horizontal (left-right ) on both the top and bottom cushions.

Cloth / Leather Upholstery
Cloth/ leather upholstery for regular production 1978's utilize cloth seat cushions and seat back panel inserts stitched in the same manner as the regular production upholstery noted above. The seating surface area was cloth, with a vinyl bolster.

Hope this helps solve your situation.
