Hi-- finally got the entire dash back together.
Fixed many cut wires and bad grounds.
got everything back together and now it will not start.
I can go to the starter and jump the solenoid and start the car.
Inside when I turn the key, absolutely nothing.
any ideas???

Vette(s): 79 L-82 4-speed. Original block now a 383 with aluminum heads, roller cam and rockers, Edelbrock intake, MSD distributor and ignition module, Speed Demon 650 carb. Rebuilt and upgraded all steering and suspension.
Is just the starter without power or the whole car? If the whole car it happened to me a few years ago and drove me nuts for a couple days. The connector located under the hood at the firewall that feeds from the starter to the fuse panel had come slightly ajar. I had pulled just enough on the wires when reconnecting the starter to break the connection.

Found the problem.
Switch on the clutch pedal
I disconnected and jumped the switch now the car cranks.

Has anyone ever replaced one.
can barely get my hand up there to unplug the wire.
I cannot see how it is attached.
any ideas.

The switch is similar to the Reverse Light switch that is on the transmission. I'm trying to locate a pic of the position on the pedal bracket, but I may not have one.....Unhappy

Joel,
that looks like fun.
anyone ever replace one.
it looks as though you have to be concerned about inserting the linkage correctly also.
good pic.
thanks,
Paul

Yeah...a regular barrel of fun.....LOL
To be honest, I think it's easier to do if you remove the dash panel(speedo-tach cluster). Unless you happen to fit up under the dash fairly easily, that is....LOL   With the dash panel out, you can at least SEE the dang thing.
Another thing, too...those widdle bushings that the linkage fits into can break, and cause it to have too much free-play, thereby not actually moving the switch far enough to allow a start. I have, in the past, used short pieces of small vacuum hose on there, to keep from having to find/purchase new bushings....Wink

I am going to look at it a little closer.
maybe the bushings may be the issue.
I will check it out and get back to everyone.
