Hi everyone.I am new to the site and look forward to getting to know everyone.I've had my Vette for about a year now.Just drove and enjoyed it last year ,but this year it's time to start repairs and upkeep.So...here's my first question.

The back of my convertible deck lid sticks up on one side above the body.I have looked at the way it is mounted and disassemled it to see if there is a way to lower it,but I cannot find a solution. The assembly manual I have shows washers/shims in the hinge assembly, but mine does not have any that I could remove to solve my problem.Anybody have a solution? |headscratch|

Welcome to C3VR...!!! |wavey|

I haven't had to adjust the decklid on "The Toy" yet, but the AIM would have been the first place I would have looked for help. To be honest with you I haven't really taken a good look at how that is put together so you're a couple of steps ahead of me. I'll keep an eye out for any info on how to make the adjustment and post it here.

After you've registered your '70 here on C3VR (click here), if you haven't been to Juliet's '70 Corvette Registry yet check it out by clicking on logo below. I know she'd appreciate you sending her as much info as you can on your car.

You're welcome. And don't feel bad 'cause I asked the same question soon after getting "The Toy". The Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) is basically a set of factory drawings and notes that detail how the car was put together on the line. They are available at most Corvette parts places (like the site's sponsors), the C3VR Shopping Center tab, or the eBay C3 Auctions, usually for around $20. Adding the repair manuals from Chilton's and/or Haynes to your library will help also you with projects, big or small.

This may sound kinda simplistic but, take a look at the whether stripping under the deck lid. Make sure it is the same thickness on both sides. The previous owner may have tried to do a "bubba" fix on a leak.

Ohhh! Now I feel even dumber.I hava an AIM and it isn't helping me with this problem.Took a look at the weatherstripping too and that looks fine.It appears that for whatever reason the hinge just sits up too high and there is no way to lower it. |headscratch|

the service manual has a better description of how to adjust it but its not much help this is what it says "To raise or lower top surface of the lid, add or remove shims as required" there should be a shim under the hinge assemblies at the rear. there also should be shims between the deck lid and the hinge arms. thats it. if there's no shims to remove you may have bent hinge arms.

Garry-
I have disassembled the entire hinge assembly and there are no shims. The only thing left in my car are the hinges and the hinge towers.Nothing to take out to lower it in any way. That's kind of why I was hoping there was a trick I was missing. If nothing else at this point I guess pulling out the entire hinge assembly and tweaking the hinges is my only option.Hey,nice shot of your car!I am a big fan of the Florida gulf coast beaches and of Corvette convertibles,so that pictures about as good as it gets! |cool|

there are supposed to be shims under the hinge towers.
