Worn hinge bushings? If the door kind of drops a bit as soon as it clears the latch bolt, it's probably a hinge or the bushing.
If the door has been off for some reason, it may not have been adjusted properly when reinstalled.

Not an answer because the drivers door on my 79 NOW requires TWO hands to open it....any idea of what adjustments I can make...?
Door fits fine..swings fine...just requires a LOT of pull to get it to open...
Just replaced the entire mechanism in my Chevelles drivers door and IF they work the same It seems my door handle does not fully release...been years and years since I was inside the doors of my c3's..
Any thoughts...

Sometimes a simple cleaning and lubrication will take care of that. You may still have to remove the door panel to be thorough.
How easily does the door open from the inside?

The door opens excellent from the inside. No sticking at all. It is a two hand job from the outside though. Thoughts?

The adjustment between the door handle and the latch may be out of adjustment. Makes it harder than the dickens to open. Lengthen the adjustment a bit, and they open right up.
Slowly depress the handle. You can feel the pressure of the latch at some point. This shoud be at least half way up. If it goes too low before it starts to release, the adjustment of the link rod could be your problem.

My immediate thought were worn hinge bushings. If they are not worn, and the door has no "slop" in the hinges or the entire hinge post moving (worst case scenario) it could be the latch is not getting fully released by the door handle. It could also be drag on the latching post against the latch. The posts are adjustable in all directions to correct this.

Thank you Ken! You hit the jackpot. I can feel the latch pressure when the handle is fully depressed. Essentialy I am muscling the latch open by yanking the door. Now how do I adjuct the linkage? Do I remove the door panel?

I have the same problem on my passenger side door. Do you think this is why the wife likes to drive?
