I installed a MSD 6A capacitive discharge ignition box in my '69 427/435 and can honestly say it is worth it! I bought it last week at Carlisle and installed it behind the passenger side of the dash where it's unseen.

The difference in responsiveness is very noticeable and I haven't even re-gapped the spark plugs yet. When I test drove the car, pulling out of my driveway resulted in gravel flying everywhere even by barely touching the throttle...not that the car doesn't do that anyway if I'm not careful. It will be nice if it does something to improve the single digit gas mileage, but I'm not holding out false hopes.

If anyone is thinking about installing one of these, I can definitely say go for it.

The MSD instructions don't give specific recommendations on re-gapping the spark plugs, just general recommendations. Does anyone here who has experience with the MSD ignitions have any advice for me on what gap to set the plugs at...427 L71 engine, bored .030 over with compression ratio set at 10.6:1 and an L88 cam.

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I am planning (hoping) on adding the MSD 6AL.....soon. Chomping at the bit here, I will get my car back on the road Saturday night. The last upgrades were quite extensive. Rebuilt rear end, posi, new yokes,6 u joints,3.55 gears, spindle, bearings and a hard shift kit I just got off the phone with a guy who drags vettes and did a lot of work for me. All he keeps saying is you will be Quite Impressed! We talked about the MSD 6AL. He said I had my timing pretty far advanced   and the ignition box will help. SOLD!

I wasn't quite sure about what to expect from the ignition box until I read this post. Possibly better gas mileage to boot is another plus. Trying to get all the power from the front to the wheels. Who knows maybe I will EAT SOME RICE this weekend!
