The one I took off was pretty rusty after 30 years, so I went with stainless for that reason. I had thought about having my old one powder coated and I may still at some point. I saw one that was painted black, it looked ok but not as nice as being powder coated.
I've never used it to carry anything - just like the look with it on.
(Note: seeing that red 80+ in the above posts makes me ask whatever happened to all of those Vettes in that NY garage?)
